Schools
and School Board Offices To Close Two Hours Early
Tuesday For Saints Parade
St. Tammany
Parish Public Schools and offices will close two hours
early on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, so that our students
and employees can help the New Orleans Saints celebrate
their Super Bowl victory.
Attendance
Boundaries Being Drawn For Mayfield Elementary
The first
public meeting to begin considering attendance boundaries
for the new Henry Mayfield Elementary School was held
February 2 at Bayou Woods Elementary School. Approximately
25 people attended. Elementary Supervisor Amiee Woessner,
chairman of the boundary selection committee, coordinated
the meeting, and Superintendent Gayle Sloan explained
the timetable for the attendance area selection process.
Three maps, each with
different proposed attendance boundaries, were shown
to begin discussion. The proposed maps are “starting
points” and may be changed as public comments
are received and considered. Information on student
demographics for each map will be posted soon. Copies
of the maps will also be on display at Bayou Woods
Elementary School and Carolyn Park Middle School.

Emergency
Information
The School
System is introducing a new communication tool for
parents this school year. Parents can now sign up
to receive emergency information through text messages,
email, or voice messages. To sign up, go to www.stpsb.org
and click on the button on the right hand side of
the screen that reads, “Sign up for Emergency
and News Alerts.” This system will be used to
send out important information if we have weather
closures or any type of emergency. We hope all parents
will take advantage of this new tool. It’s an
easy way to stay in constant contact in the event
of any type of emergency situation at the school.
