Tips on Reading Aloud -
Reading aloud to children of all ages is one of the best ways to help them develop a love of books. It can also be a special time to spend with your child.
1. Don't read stories that you don't enjoy yourself.
2. Don't get too comfortable. If you lie down, you'll probably get drowsy.
3. Don't confuse quantity with quality. Your child will remember 10 minutes of reading
far longer than 2 hours of TV!

  • At home, read to your children or have your children read to you. Invite family and friends to join you.
  • Visit a local library, a bookstore, or a community center for storytelling or poetry events.
  • Donate books to a book drive, a child care center, a community center, or a hospital.
Target, a Proud Sponsor of PTA, is offering a free, year-round website with a special area for parents that is filled with ideas to help encourage children to read, plus coupons for dollars off children's books.
